Auction
The start up will work on an auction basis. All players will be bid on on proboards thread under Auction -> Players up for Auction. If you are interested in signing a player you will simply nominate him by creating a thread under the Players up for Auction board and place your bid on him. Minimum starting bid is $.25M. Minimum bid increment is $.25M FOR THE START UP DRAFT ONLY Once you have put your bid in any owner with cap room may up your bid. The timer on any player will be 24 hours. Once the top bid has not been outbid for 24 hours then the owner of that high bid will sign the player a salary amount equal to the bid. Once a player has been won the winning team must post contract length on Pro-boards on the designated board (same board the player was being bid on) within 24 hours of winning the player. If you fail to post a contract on a player within 24 hours of winning the player your franchise will automatically assign the player a 1 year deal. (THE .25M INCREMENTS ARE ONLY DURING THE AUCTION. THROUGHOUT THE REMAINDER OF THIS LEAGUE WE WILL BE WORKING WITH MANY MORE NUMBERS. TO BE CLEAR I AM REFERRING TO WHEN YOU RE SIGN PLAYERS OR CUT THEM. WE WONT BE WORKING WITH PERFECTLY ROUNDED NUMBERS RIGHT ON 250,000)
I will move threads once the owner has allocated the amount of years they want to sign the player the won to Finished Auctions to de-clutter.
END OF AUCTION (EDITED: 2/17/17)
End of Auction procedure:
We will continue with 24 threads for player nominations until we get to a point where one of the teams no longer wishes to nominate a player. Declaring yourself out may occur if you no longer have any budget.
In the event that a team has multiple potential winning bids on the board but wishes to prepare to leave the draft, they can fulfill their obligation to nominate a new player without committing to win this player by submitting a 0 million bid player nomination. Should this 0 million player be unbid on for 24 hours, the player will return to the FA pool. This provides an opportunity for teams to attempt to win players they are currently bidding on without committing to another player through nomination.
Once a team submits a 0 million bid nomination:
1. The team is not allowed to pursue any player they have not previously bid on.
2. They must also mark all future bids with an asterisk (ex: 1.25 million*) to allow for simple regulation of the team’s exit strategy.
Once a team has no winning bids on the board, they can declare themselves out of the draft without nominating a new player. The maintainance of 24 players will be handled through nominations by the remaining actively drafting teams in an order defined by a random order generator.
Salary Cap
All teams will have a $100 MillionHard soft (Edit for clarity 4/14/20) Salary cap. Any transaction that you perform (Waiver addition, trade, or Free Agent pick up) during the season that puts you over the cap will cause your team to instantly be penalized with a $.5M cap hit. Plus you will need to waive any player(s) for the required waiver penalties to get back under your cap. All salaries will be rounded to the $10,000th.
Planning and Budgeting
Initial roster filling will take place through an Auction. I STRONGLY SUGGEST that you budget wisely to cover all positions needed to start. Also take into consideration leaving cap room for trades, waiver wire pick-ups, injury replacements and Rookie draft picks.
Waivers
When a player is dropped the dropping team will receive a cap hit based on his contract. Teams will receive a 30% of a players current contract per year cap hit for any player they drop except TS players that have never been active. For example if you have Demarco Murray signed for 3 years for 10M and cut him, you would still have to pay 3m each year for the next three years. Alternatively, for players 2 million or under, an owner may choose to take all of the cap hit in one year (CURRENT YEAR) and needs to be communciated to commish when this is the intention- also this is allowed only prior to week 8. After week 8 all waiver cap hits will be extended over the life of the contract.
Rookie Contracts and Salaries
Round 1 Salaries will be: Picks 1-3 = $4.00M, 4-6 = $3.5M, 7-9 = $3.0M, and 10-12 = $2.5M
Round 2 salaries will be $1.5M per year, Round 3 will be 1M per year, and Round 4 will be $.5M per year.
Contract Length
All players will be assigned a 1-5 year contract based on the winning bidders choosing. There will be a thread on proboards where you will post how long you want to sign a player for. Franchises are expected to post contracts within 24 hours of winning a bid on a player. If they fail to do so they will sign the player automatically to a one year deal.
Minimum Salary
Minimum salaries will be $.25M for all players
Injured Reserve and Salaries
Injured Reserve Players will only cost 50% of their salary while on IR. Example, if you Keenan Allen signed to 3 years for 10 million per year and place him on IR, he will only count as 5M while on your IR. Once he comes off the IR his hit will go back up to 10M.
Taxi Squad
Taxi Squad players will not count against the salary cap until activated (See TS rules for more details). If they have a contract prior to moving to TS they will not be counted under your salary cap either. However, if you do drop a TS player that has been active previously, you will be penalized the same as for dropping an active player. Essentially, rookies are free to place on TS and Drop from TS without penalty, but, players who have playing time are free to put on TS but not to drop from TS.
"Gaines Adams Rule":
In the event of the death of a player currently under contract, the player may be released without a cap hit.
Retirement:
If one of your players retires and you still have him under contract you may waive him for a 10% per contract year hit, instead of the normal 30%. You may do this as soon as they announce they are retiring. Example, if you have Larry Fitzgerald signed for 3 years at 10 million per year, you would still have to pay 1m per year for the next 3 years if you decide to waive him.
