Injured Reserve
Teams will have 2 injured reserve spots. To go on IR a player does not have to be placed on IR in real life but he does have to be scheduled to miss at least one game.
If you place him on your fantasy IR he is not eligible to return within the same year regardless of if he comes back to play in real life. So most of the time this will be for players placed on real life IR.
Any IR player is eligible to be traded in season, and if they are, the acquiring team may decide to keep the player on the IR, or activate him. Whatever they decide, they will need to have the necessary cap space to fit any move.
Suspended Players are NOT IR eligible.
IR and Salaries
All players on IR will only cost 50% of their salaries.
Taxi Squad
The Taxi Squad is designed primarily to stash rookies that need a year or more to develop before they are fantasy worthy.
11/05/2017 EDIT:
Once a player is active during a season he becomes ineligible for Taxi Squad. Also, owners who win free agency bids on players will let the league admin know in the winning thread where they would like the payer assigned to.
The Taxi squad will consist of up to 5 players that have no more than 16 games of NFL playing experience. They will not count towards active roster limit or toward the salary cap, although they will have a designated salary and contract. Once a Taxi squad player plays his 17th career game, he must be moved to the active roster or be waived. If the active roster is already full, the team must make room on the active roster or the player will be waived. The team must also have the cap room to pay the salary of the activated TS player. Any player that has been active on your team at any point during the season and is waived from TS will incur the normal waiver penalty. However, any TS player that has not been active during the season can be waived with no penalty. Once you move a player from TS to active you may not move him back during that season. If that player is still eligible for the Taxi squad prior to the next season you have the option to move him back to the TS then. During the Off-season you may move players to and from TS with no restrictions. During the off-season a player must be on TS for 48 hours prior to be waived in order for you to not receive a cap hit. During the season a player must be on TS for 3 weeks minimum prior to being waived for you to not receive a cap hit. Taxi cuts that are free and do not qualify for waivers.
Extension Rules
Teams can extend 1 player contracts per year. This will happen at the beginning of Off-season prior to RFA.
EDIT FOR CLARIFICATION 2/22/18
Extension Rules
Teams can extend 1 player contracts per year. This will happen at the beginning of Off-season prior to RFA and can be done at any point in a player’s contract. For example, a player on a 4 year contract can be given an extension at any point during those 4 years. The new extension amount will not affect the remaining years of the initial contract and will take effect at the end of the initial contract (example: at the end of the 4 year contract). Penalties for dropping will take into account all years of the contract.
Finally, one player can be extended each year and each player can only be extended once during their time on each team’s roster. If a player who has been extended by the prior team is traded, the receiving team WILL (updated for clarity 10/15/18 -Duffy) be able to extend them. Once a player is extended they will still be eligible for THE FRANCHISE TAG.
Extension System
Extensions work as follows:
- 1 year extensions require you pay him 25% more than his current salary
- 2 year extensions require you pay him 50% more than his current salary
- 3 year extensions require you pay him 75% more than his current salary
Franchise Tags
You may tag one player whose contract is up each year with a franchise tag.
Franchise Tag will work on a progressive basis. You may tag a player up to 3 times (3 consecutive off-seasons)
1st Franchise Tag= 10% more than the average of the top 10 highest paid players at the position OR 10% more than the current contract, which ever is more.
2nd Franchise Tag= 20% more than the average of the top 10 highest paid players at the position OR 20% more than the current contract, which ever is more. (calculations will be based off the escalated 10% number from first franchise tag.)
3rd Franchise Tag= 30% more than the average of the top 10 highest paid players at the position OR 30% more than the current contract, which ever is more. (calculations will be based off the escalated 20% number from second franchise tag.)
Rule change 4/28/2020:
Franchise tag updates: All Franchise tags have a minimum value of 10 Million. This prevents cheaper position groups like the TE from having “franchise-tag loophole” that lets them escape the 25% extension price.
